Living the 40 days of Lent together

What is Magis Circle Lent?

Fasting, praying, taking on a challenge…

Magis Circle Lent is for people in their 20s and 30s who want to live the 40 days of Lent consciously — as a journey toward Easter and in connection with Jesus.

During these 40 days, you meet weekly in a small group of 6–8 people — either near you or online.

Each participant chooses one simple personal practice to live with during this time.
For example: using your phone more intentionally, taking a daily moment of silence, praying with a Bible text, or letting go of something that creates space.

In the meetings, you share what this practice stirs in you and how it shapes your everyday life.

How we journey together

The focus is not on what you achieve during these forty days, but on how you live them.
We share honestly what is alive within us, in a safe setting and without judgment.

Is Magis Circle Lent right for you?

This will probably suit you if…

  • you notice a desire for more attention and inner quiet during these 40 days of Lent

  • you appreciate not having to walk this season alone

  • you are open to sharing and listening, without judgment

  • you are not looking for ready-made answers, but for space to explore

⚠️ This may be less suitable if…

  • you are looking for a tight programme or clearly defined goals

  • you prefer to work individually, without sharing or exchange

  • you mainly see this season as a performance or discipline project

▸ What do we actually do in a Magis Circle?

A Magis Circle is neither a course nor a discussion group. It is a space for attentive listening and sharing. You share what touches you, what you find difficult, or what helps you to live with greater freedom.

▸ What do the meetings look like?

A meeting follows a simple rhythm:

  • a short opening or a moment of silence

  • round 1: what did your practice reveal to you this week?

  • round 2: what touched you in what others shared?

  • round 3: what do you take with you into your own life?

We listen without discussion or giving advice.

▸ What kind of practices can I choose?

You choose one small, manageable practice for the 40 days of Lent. For example:

  • ten minutes of silence each day

  • one smartphone-free day per week

  • ending your day with three short reflective sentences

  • living more consciously with gratitude

  • one small act of care or attention each week

It’s not about sticking to it perfectly, but about noticing what happens.

Whatever you choose, it doesn’t need to be heavy or demanding; small and doable is exactly the point.

▸ Do I need to be religious?

No. You don’t need to know exactly what you believe.
Magis Circle is for people who are believing, searching, doubting, or simply curious.
You are welcome just as you are.

▸ Why together?

  • The group helps you to keep going, without being hard on yourself

  • Sharing brings clarity to what is alive within you

  • You see how others are finding their way, and that can encourage and support you

Guidance of the Magis Circles

Each Magis Circle is guided by an experienced spiritual companion.
They provide a safe and supportive framework and help safeguard attentiveness and care within the group.

What is a spiritual companion?

A spiritual companion is someone trained in listening for the ways in which God may be at work in people’s lives.

The companion is neither a teacher nor a problem-solver. They do not give advice or offer ready-made answers. At the heart of spiritual accompaniment is attentive listening: to what someone shares, to what is moving within them, and to what in that movement may come from God.

In a Magis Circle, the companion helps create space for each person’s experience. They safeguard a safe and respectful atmosphere, invite people to speak from their own lived experience, and ensure that listening happens without judgment. In this way, what is alive within people is given room to become clearer, without the conversation slipping into discussion or well-intended advice.

What is the Ignatian tradition?

The Ignatian tradition, or spirituality, is a way of living and praying that goes back to Ignatius of Loyola. It invites people to pay attention to their own experience: to what happens within them in everyday life, in their desires, choices, faith, and doubt.

In this tradition, God is not seen as separate from ordinary life, but as someone who can be encountered precisely there. In what touches you, gives joy, or causes restlessness, something may emerge that offers direction. By pausing with this — personally and together with others — it can gradually become clearer what truly gives life.

In the Magis Circle, this means starting from lived experience, listening without judgment, and making space for each person’s own path. Not to convince one another, but to become more attentive to what is being revealed.
